The United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore held its annual awards luncheon at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday, March 20 2015. Among the individuals recognized were Princess Anne Elementary School Principal Cortney Monar who motivated staff, parents, community people and students to raise a significant amount of money on behalf of the United Way. During the 2013-2014 school year Princess Anne Elementary students, staff and parents donated just under $1,500. This year, 2014-2015, Ms. Monar motivated the school community to raise $4843.57. These monies were raised from a community walk, staff casual days, student casual days, administrator pig kissing and duct taping the principal to the wall. Ms. Monar has demonstrated leadership and passion. Her planning and motivational skills with support from the Princess Anne Elementary greater school community led to her nomination and approval to join the Lower Eastern Shore United Way Board of Directors.
